The 5 keys to a happy and healthy work/life balance

Finding it difficult to find your work/life balance? Well here are our Jade’s best life hacks (or top tips for the older readers) for keeping a balance between work and play:

Be the master of your inbox – Since the smartphone revolution emails have been harder to escape than the Minions, with emailing apps being a permanent fixture on almost every modern device. So what can you do about the constant barrage of messages and subscriber emails? Well, only answering emails where necessary and establishing which are important (or not) is a good start. Setting up a coded inbox system is also a good way to go.

Create a bucket list – It’s nice to know that no matter how hard you work, you always have the option to play harder. Make a list of things you want to do and see, the places you need to visit before you kick the bucket and the people you want to see more of. This could be anything from skydiving to surfing, learning to dance or learning how to sail - whatever floats your boat really (pun intended). The possibilities are endless, and being able to visualise and plan your dream leisure activities will give you something to look forward to. Just try not to daydream too much when the deadlines are looming.

Keep healthy and stay rested – Whilst you’re checking your emails why not download a fitness app and keep tabs on how much exercise you do each day? A healthy body means a healthy mind and exercise is an effective way of reducing stress levels and boosting those endorphins that make us feel buzzing! It wouldn’t hurt to stretch your legs while you can at work either. You should also be sure to get enough sleep! We would recommend 8 hours for peak efficiency but we can’t promise that getting up on a morning will be any easier.

Stay organised – Being organised means being more time efficient, leaving you time to do the things that you enjoy. You may be surprised, but being organised can also boost team morale making for a great working environment. If you’re usually more of a chaotic worker, why not make a ‘to do list’? It will reduce the time spent starring into space/social media/the fridge and help you work effectively through your tasks. At DDCA we swear by the task management application ‘Wunderlist’. It’s a great way of setting yourself tasks and deadlines, managing your multiple work projects and then sharing these with the rest of your team. We love it at DDCA and we know you will too so give it a go!

Work smarter not harder – Devote your entire focus to the task at hand, concentrate on your time management and turn your key tasks into everyday habits. Most importantly though, enjoy what you do!
