Is Kim Kardashian a secret marketing genius?
Kim Kardashian – love her or hate her, but you can’t deny that she’s been a marketing machine over the last year.
Since her slightly more humble days on the reality TV show Keeping Up With The Kardashians, this seemingly larger than life personality has continued to put herself out there as being one of the most accessible celebrity faces of this generation.
As a fan of Twitter and Instagram, Kim’s regular social posts make us feel like we’re living in her world as she shows us her outfits, makeup and day-to-day life. Aside from posting her collective tens of millions of followers, she also released a game entitled Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, where you have to navigate your way through the world of the stars to become famous. This proved so popular, it’s been extended and added to since its release, becoming one of the most popular games ever released for smartphones.
Earlier this year saw her, as well as her sisters Kourtney, Khloe, Kendall and Kylie, release a subscription-based app each with exclusive content and occasional live streams from the famous family.
And, if that wasn’t enough, her latest venture in the online world is Kimoji. Yup, you guessed it, she’s released her own emoticons to be used online via an app. You can find an image for everything, from her amazing crying face to her famous behind to a nude lipstick to a hand taking a selfie, incase you wanted to unleash your inner Kim and express your feelings in an entirely Kardashian way. It was so popular on the day of release earlier this week that it crashed the App Store – Kim broke the internet again, guys.
So, what makes her so good at just being… well, Kim. One could argue that she doesn’t do anything, but if you delve past her merely existing (and the definition of fame these days), she’s built up an empire of not only apps and emojis, but a clothing brand, makeup and more advertising endorsements than most ‘famous’ people have in their entire lifetime. She’s married to one of the most famous guys in the music industry and her sisters are doing just as well, so, as a family, they’re pretty unstoppable.
And why do people like her? Despite the life she leads, she still seems quite down to earth, sharing so many aspects of what she does which makes her so likeable. She lets people in and knows to use her fame to her advantage without coming off as being above people, which, in this age of faux-celebrities, is an achievement in itself.
When you are your own brand, it’s good to stay one step ahead of the game and our Kim has certainly done that this year! We’ll give her 10 points for effort.
